Helicopters Land In Ocean Beach

Unusual, simultaneous helicopter landings in Ocean Beach and Robins Rest.

When a helicopter lands on Fire Island the entire town comes to see what’s going on. Well tonight it was the same old story, everyone came out to check out the scene. However, this time it was different. The common scenario is a “medical emergency” but these choppers were in no rush to take off, extremely unusual for a medical emergency right? I went to the landing of one helicopter and it was a rather strange seen, I waited for 30 minutes or more to see a sick islander being loaded on the chopper, but there was no rush to load up the passenger, in fact the chopper turned off its engine. To add to the mysterious helicopter landing that I was told was a “medical emergency”, I found it strange that at least one law enforcement agent had time during this “medical emergency” to take a cigarette break. So what was going on? Why did one helicopter land and the other stay in the air and then follow each other back towards the mainland. It's probably nothing, but I'm just saying after 30 years on Fire Island this event struck me as very odd. I will update if it turns out to be anything truly usual.

Last nights helicopter landing is still a mystery. However, true to small town life the rumors are circulating fast. One rumor that I find interesting and very plausible is a high profile celebrity transport.  We all have spotted celebrities on the Island and it’s widely known that stars like, Uma Thurman, Joe Namath, Harvey Keitel, Ethan Hawke and David Duchovny to name a few spend time on our island. But none of these celebrities would require police helicopter escort so if the celebrity transport rumor is true, who could it have been?
